SHAH ALAM, Dec 29 — In light of the recent surge in Covid-19 cases, the state government strongly advises the public to adhere to the TRIIS (test, report, isolate, inform, and seek treatment) protocol.

This guidance, issued by state executive councillor Jamaliah Jamaluddin, is particularly critical during the holiday and school vacation period, which typically sees increased social interactions.

She emphasised the importance of self-regulation for those who test positive for Covid-19.

"With the festive season upon us, it is crucial to be vigilant and proactive in taking preventive measures against Covid-19. We should avoid crowded places as much as possible," Jamaliah said in a video public service announcement on Facebook.

To further enhance personal protection, she encouraged using face masks and hand sanitisers while stressing the importance of seeking medical care at the onset of symptoms, especially for those which progressively worsen.

Additionally, Jamaliah highlighted the significance of vaccination, particularly for high-risk individuals and those frequently in contact with the public.

"Vaccination, whether it is the primary course or a booster shot, is key to reducing the risk of severe outcomes, including death," she said.

This call to action follows Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad's report that Covid-19 cases increased by 29.5 per cent in Epidemiological Week 51 (December 17 to 22), with a total of 22,413 cases compared to 17,307 cases in the preceding week.

Despite the current spike, he remains optimistic about a decrease in infection rates next month, citing various indicators like death rates and ICU admissions as part of his assessment.
