“I have just received information from JBPM indicating that the floods in the three states are showing a downward trend,” he told the press after a working visit to Pasar Bazar Rakyat in Seri Kembangan today.
Nga said the data shows that Kelantan currently has the highest number of flood victims, with 15,897 people seeking shelters in 66 temporary relief centres.
“This is followed by Terengganu with 8,300 victims, and Pahang with approximately 800 victims,” he said.
The minister advised parents to be extra vigilant during the flooding season and to prevent their children from playing in floodwaters.
“The ministry would like to stress and advise all parents not to forget that floodwaters can contain harmful germs.
“Do not let your children play in such waters as it poses a risk to their health and safety,” Nga said.
He added that JBPM, as well as the northeast monsoon rapid response team, is ready to be mobilised to face any potential scenarios and prevent losses of life.
