SHAH ALAM, Dec 7 — The public is urged to take extra precautions when visiting rivers and waterfalls in the Hulu Langat area during the northeast monsoon amid heavy downpours, which could cause water surge phenomena.

Dusun Tua assemblyman Datuk Johan Abdul Aziz said this is crucial, as the school holidays are just around the corner, and parents may want to bring their children for a short vacation to nearby recreation centres.
“I will ask the Kajang Municipal Council to put up safety notices. However, what is more important is the public needs to exercise caution when engaging in recreational activities, taking into account the weather conditions,” he said when contacted.
To date, two waterfalls in the state constituency are already closed to the public, namely in the Sungai Tekala Recreation Forest, which will be shut until March next year, and Sungai Gabai, which has been off limits since the major flooding incident two years ago.
Johan also advised private campground operators and the relevant authorities to constantly monitor the situation in their respective camping areas, particularly during inclement weather.
“Operators and visitors need to be extra careful with the weather conditions, as well as the water flow in rivers and waterfalls.
“If you notice a sudden change in the weather, like the sky turning dark, exit the area immediately,” he said.
