SHAH ALAM, Dec 1 — A waste recycling programme from terraced house areas around Subang Jaya has started today , said KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM).
According to its managing director, the new initiative in collaboration with the Subang Jaya State Legislative Assembly office focused on the area from SS12 to SS19, Wangsa Baiduri, PJS 7,9 and 11.
KDEBWM managing director Datuk Ramli Mohd Tahir said the only materials that can be recycled are aluminum, plastic and dry paper, with residents having to separate them in designated bags.
"Other waste such as furniture, electronic devices, games, food packages, clothes and construction tools are not currently being recycled. Collection will be made three times a week," he said.
He added that the project will be expanded to other zones in Subang Jaya if the first phase is successful within three months to raise awareness among residents regarding the importance of recycling.
"We believe that the approach made is capable of increasing the recycling rate which currently stands at 17 per cent," said Ramli.
