HULU KELANG, Nov 25 — A total of 1.3 million trees of various species have been planted throughout the state via the 11 Million Tree Planting Campaign by 2026.

Selangor Forestry Department (JPNS) director Azhar Ahmad said they are confident the target to plant 1.5 million trees this year will be achieved by the end of December.

"The campaign is led by the state government, organised by the State Economic Planning Unit involving JPNS, the local authorities, and the District and Land Offices, which are actively involved in planting efforts in their respective areas.

"This also aligns with the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah's decree to maintain a green environment in the state, to plant no fewer than 11 million trees by 2026," he said.

Azhar was speaking at the programme held by the Selangor Football Association in collaboration with JPNS at the Ulu Gombak Forest Reserve in Kemensah today.

He added they are committed to attracting more corporate and individual involvement to ensure the campaign's success.

"JPNS' challenge to make this campaign successful is the cost. Therefore, we are collaborating with various private companies to assist through corporate social responsibility programmes.

"However, an RM400,000 allocation following the Menteri Besar's announcement during the tabling of the 2024 Selangor Budget to the local authorities will help enhance tree planting through this campaign," Azhar said.
