Rumpun Selangor: State to appoint coordinators in opposition seats

By Amar Shah Mohsen

SHAH ALAM — The Selangor government will appoint constituency coordinators to manage programmes under the Gagasan Rumpun Selangor grassroots initiative in opposition-held seats, said state executive councillor for rural development and unity Datuk Rizam Ismail.

He said while the state is committed to involving all levels of the community, regardless of background and political ideology, it has been a convention for coordinators to be assigned to handle government programmes in constituencies not under its care.

“As per tradition, the management of government initiatives will be implemented by state assembly coordinators, who will be appointed soon.

“However, for any large-scale programmes that involve the public, opposition lawmakers will usually be notified beforehand,” he said in the State Legislative Assembly, here, today.

Rizam was responding to Bukit Melawati assemblyman Datuk Noorazley Yahya, who wanted to know if opposition lawmakers like him will be involved in the Rumpun Selangor initiative.

He said considering the programme is meant to foster unity, it must transcend party lines.

To a separate question from Seri Serdang assemblyman Abbas Salimi Azmi, Rizam said he is already collaborating with executive councillor for youth and sports Najwan Halimi to better promote the Rumpun Selangor initiative.

“God willing, we will implement even more effective programmes together in the future,” he said, but stopped short of elaborating.

Last Friday, when tabling the 2024 Selangor Budget, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced that RM4.5 million will be allocated towards promoting the Gagasan Rumpun
