SHAH ALAM, Nov 11 — To ensure disaster information can be communicated more effectively, RM1.4 million has been allocated for the expansion of disaster operation centres in each district in Selangor in 2024.

Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the centres have been established in three districts this year, namely Petaling, Klang, and Hulu Langat.

"Next year, the Information Management Division (BPM), the State Disaster Management Unit (UPBN) and the Smart Selangor Delivery Unit (SSDU) will focus on other districts.

“This centre will be equipped with infrastructure capable of efficiently relaying crucial information to the Selangor Smart Operations Centre (SSOC) during any disaster,” he said while tabling the 2024 Selangor Budget yesterday.

RM400,000 will be allocated next year to sustain community projects, providing participants with an understanding of local disaster risks.

"The state government is holding a Strengthening the Disaster Risk Reduction Capacity to Improve the Safety and Security of Communities by Understanding Disaster Risks (SeDAR) project through a collaboration with the University of Tohoku and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

"Through this project, the community will be exposed to understanding local disaster risk based on scientific facts and empirical analysis, and knowledge to the community about disaster risk preparedness," he said.
