SHAH ALAM, Nov 1 — A total of 1,150 individuals from low-income groups in the Kuala Selangor Parliamentary seat received Jom Shopping vouchers for the upcoming Deepavali festival period.

Its MP Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the vouchers worth RM200 each were distributed in stages, involving the state constituencies of Bukit Melawati (400), Ijok (400), and Jeram (350).

"Last week, state government contributions were handed over to Bukit Melawati recipients at Lotus Kuala Selangor, while this weekend, they will be handed to Jeram and Ijok recipients.

"Hopefully, this can ease their burden in preparing their necessities and add joy to their Deepavali celebrations," he told SelangorKini.

The state government introduced the Jom Shopping Raya initiative for low-income groups as a long-term initiative to safeguard the people's welfare and well-being.

It is distributed via the community service centres in the state constituencies, according to the main ethnic components and festive celebrations.

The 2023 Selangor Budget allocated RM16.48 million to benefit 82,400 recipients, with the voucher value was increased from RM100 to RM200 due to the rising living costs and the people's needs.
