API: Banting, Cheras read unhealthy levels of air pollution

SHAH ALAM, Oct 1 — The Department of Environment's Air Pollutant Index (API) has recorded unhealthy air levels in parts of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

As of 6pm, Banting's API stands at 153. Earlier today, its stood at 124 at 10am, with an unhealthy reading throughout the day.

In Kuala Lumpur, Cheras' API is 152, as of 6pm. Its unhealthy index began at 12pm, when it stood at 109, maintaining unhealthy levels since then.

Meanwhile, in other parts of Malaysia, Seberang Jaya in Penang stands at 110, while in Negeri Sembilan, Nilai, Seremban, and Port Dickson stand at 153, 106, and 152, respectively.

In Melaka, Bukit Rambai and Bandaraya Melaka stand at 153 and 139, respectively. For Johor, Batu Pahat and Larkin stand at 144 and 155, respectively.

The Air Pollutant Index Management System categorises air pollution based on five levels. These include 0 to 50 as good, 51 to 100 as moderate, 101 to 200 as unhealthy, 201 to 300 as very unhealthy, and 300 and above as hazardous.
