HULU SELANGOR, Sept 23 — The permanent forest reserve areas in Selangor, at 250,739 hectares, have further increased this year with the declaration of two such areas in the Kuala Selangor and Kuala Langat districts.

State executive councillor for the environment Jamaliah Jamaluddin said these two forests are the Kuala Selangor Nature Park and the Tanjung Dua Belas Permanent Forest Reserve, encompassing 489 hectares.

"This demonstrates the state's commitment, along with the Selangor Forestry Department (JPNS), to achieve an even higher percentage of maintaining more permanent forest reserves.

"Selangor is the only state which has frozen logging operations until 2035, so this total area will be increased," she said.

Jamaliah was speaking at the closing ceremony of the biodiversity scientific programme at Sungai Chiling in Hulu Selangor Forest Reserve yesterday.

She added that JPNS is also proposing additional permanent forest reserves which are currently in the declaration process, involving several areas.

This initiative is part of the state government's commitment to maintaining at least 30 per cent of Selangor's land as permanent forest reserves since 2010.
