MBSA aims to be transport-friendly city by 2035

SHAH ALAM, Sept 5 — The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has launched myriad plans to achieve transport-friendly city status by 2035.

Mayor Nor Fuad Abdul Hamid said among these initiatives are making available 2,000km of space for micromobility vehicles on city roads.

“The main target group for micromobility access is senior citizens. This group makes up 10 per cent of Shah Alam’s 800,000 residents,” he said yesterday.

Speaking at the 15th Eastern Asia Society for Transportation Studies (Easts) International Convention at MBSA Convention Centre here, Nor Fuad said MBSA is modifying the city’s landscape to facilitate the use of electric scooters.

He said two light-flow transit stations along Persiaran Dato’ Menteri and Stadium Shah Alam, which will be completed next year, will enhance public transport access.

Easts kicked off yesterday with 700 participants from Malaysia, South Korea, Japan, the United States, Sri Lanka and Taiwan.

The four-day event centres issues and directions for the transport sector.
