SHAH ALAM, Aug 26 — Selangor is the only state in the nation to provide a special education ecosystem for special-needs children, to alleviate their parents' burdens.

Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government also offers free early screening to parents with special-needs children, to identify their developmental levels and plan for early intervention.

"The report summary will be prepared by physiotherapists and child development specialists. Among the screening and specialist referral services provided include occupational therapy, speech therapy, and physiotherapy," he said in a Facebook post today.

The Selangor Special Needs Children (AnIS) initiative, established in 2018, assists in the welfare, improvement, and advancement of special-needs children's education in Selangor to ensure their continued well-being.

During the tabling of the 2023 Selangor Budget on November 25 last year, Amirudin said a RM1 million allocation would be set aside for the AnIS Special Assistance, for the purchase of supportive equipment, medications, and additional nutritional supplies.

The programme has also been expanded to offer additional medical treatment benefits in specialist hospitals, if emergency treatment is deemed necessary.
