Housing exco targets 200,000 affordable homes in five years

SHAH ALAM, Aug 24 — Newly minted state executive councillor for housing Borhan Aman Shah has set his sights on constructing 200,000 units of affordable homes for low income households by the end of the term.

He said some of these projects have also been earmarked for locations in the outskirts of major cities to ensure balanced development across the state.

"One of our goals in the current term is to help more Selangor citizens afford their own homes that are affordable yet of quality.

"As such, we want to build 200,000 units of houses by 2028. These include projects that have already been planned and new developments," he told Selangorkini.

Borhan said this is in line with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's desire to see the state build more affordable homes for the B40 income group.

"The mechanism to streamline our work flow and construction will be discussed further with the Selangor Housing and Property Board in the near future."

Earlier this month, Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government had constructed 171,000 homes over the past five years under the Pakatan Harapan administration.

He said the Local Government Development Ministry had also acknowledged Selangor as the state with the highest number of low-cost houses.
