Green wave contained in Selangor, says Amirudin

SHAH ALAM, Aug 13 – Selangor Pakatan Harapan chairman Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has said the green wave, rising from the purported discontentment of the Malay community against the Unity Government, has been subdued as Harapan is now able to form the state administration.

This is despite the fact Perikatan Nasional (PN) garnered 22 seats, denying the Unity Government which won 34 seats a two-thirds majority in the State Legislative Assembly

He said the coalition, together with its partner Barisan Nasional (BN), fell short of winning four additional seats to meet their target of at least 38 seats.

“If you look at the seats that we lost, especially in northern Selangor, we gave them a good fight, with most seats losing 2,000 votes and below.

“This is similar to four other seats where we lost under 600 to 700 votes, namely Dengkil, Gombak Setia, Sungai Kandis, and Taman Medan. Looking at these seats, we only missed our target by one to two per cent,’’ Amirudin said.

For the four seats, the Unity Government coalition will consult their lawyers on whether to file an election petition and challenge the results in the Election Court.

“We have to consult with our lawyers for any issues in these seats, for example, in Sungai Kandis, where it is understood the ballot paper was purportedly missing,’’ he said.

In Gombak Setia PN’s Hilman Idham won with a 58-vote majority against BN’s Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin, while in Sungai Kandis PN’s Wan Dzahanurin Ahmad won with a 167-vote majority against Harapan’s Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni.

Almost in a similar fashion, PN’s Afif Bahardin had won a 30-vote majority in Taman Medan against Harapan’s Ahmad Akhir Pawan Chik. In Dengkil PN’s Datuk Seri Jamil Salleh won with a 407 vote majority against BN’s Noorzli Said.

Meanwhile, in Hulu Kelang PN state chairman and former menteri besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali won against Harapan’s Juwairiya Zulkifli with a 1,617 vote majority.

When asked about Azmin gaining political ground by being elected to the State Legislative Assembly, Amirudin said the former’s marginal win is not at all impressive.

“He (Azmin) won less than 2,000 votes, so that is nothing great to boast about, especially coming from someone who claims to bring change to the state’’ he said.
