KUCHING, July 21 — Members of the Anti-Sexual Harassment Tribunal will be appointed by year-end, said Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.
She said the selection process is ongoing.
Nancy said the tribunal will be responsible for determining the way cases are to be handled under the act.
“The tribunal has power under law, and will be the one passing judgments (in sexual harassment cases),” she said after attending the Jerayawara Kasih@ Anti-Sexual Harassment Advocacy Programme here today.
The Anti-Sexual Harassment Act 2022 was gazetted on October 18 after the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on October 8.
In her speech, Nancy said according to Bukit Aman statistics, the number of sexual harassment reports increased to 506 in 2021 from 378 in 2020.
She said the cases involved male and female victims.
