KUALA SELANGOR, July 13 — Such has been the success of the Iltizam Selangor Penyayang (ISP) programme that an MP from Johor has expressed his personal hope that his state government will emulate it.
Parti Keadilan Rakyat's Pasir Gudang lawmaker Hassan Abdul Karim said he would raise the matter in a monthly meeting involving all Johor MPs to ensure a scheme similar to ISP can be implemented in the southern state.
"What is there in Selangor is not in Johor. Over 15 years under the Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) administration has turned Selangor into the nation's largest gross domestic product contributor.
"Later, I will be proposing the 46 welfare schemes under ISP (to Johor). I will take home this pamphlet on ISP to see what can be emulated. If you want to accuse us of copying, so be it. This is a good thing," he said.
He said this in his speech during the Jelajah Madani programme in Permatang, here, last night. Also present was Selangor Harapan chairman Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari.
Commenting further on ISP, Hassan said among the initiatives that have caught his attention were the RM300 Bantuan Kehidupan Sejahtera Selangor monthly financial aid for underprivileged individuals, Jom Shopping Perayaan voucher and Legal Aid Fund.
Since taking over state power in 2008, the Selangor government under the Harapan administration has rolled out a slew of welfare programmes that have been improved over time.
Among the latest initiatives is the Selangor General Insurance Scheme, which provides coverage to citizens as young as 30 days old.
