SINGAPORE, July 10 — Expo Malaysia Fest 2023 will promote and showcase Malaysia’s diverse range of agro-food products, tourism packages, and handicrafts to Singaporeans, said the High Commissioner of Malaysia to Singapore Datuk Azfar Mohamad Mustafar.

The event will be held from July 27 to July 30, at the Singapore Expo Convention and Exhibition Centre in Changi.

“We hope the same number of people will visit the fair this year. We will have a bigger exhibition. So far, we have recorded 278 exhibitors that will showcase their products,” he said during the pre-launch of the expo’s sixth edition, earlier today.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS) organised the expo via the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama), in partnership with Singapore-based MegaXpress International Pte Ltd.

Themed Explore The Unique Taste of Malaysia, Azfar said the expo is important for Malaysia not only to allow Singapore consumers and businesses to know 'our products but also to bring Malaysian micro as well as small-and-medium enterprises to the republic and beyond.'

Fama chairman Aminuddin Zulkipli said the authority plans to bring 10 tonnes of seasonal fruits and 2,000 stock-keeping units (SKU) of fresh and processed products to the event.

The main highlights include Fama promoting local seasonal fruits, like longan kristal from Sarawak, petai from Perak, ciku from Johor, nangka from Pahang, as well as cempedak from Perlis.

“For this particular event, we would like to strengthen and further concentrate on a strategic coalition between Fama and states like Negeri Sembilan, Terengganu, and Perak, as well as four other state agencies,” he said.

Aminuddin added that Fama also aims for 100 business matching during the four-day event, which would involve 13 exporters from Malaysia as well.

“We hope to achieve the potential export value of RM25 million,” he said.

In a press release, Fama said the vibrant festival would be a platform to exhibit an extensive array of agro-food products and Malaysian-made goods.

“A total of 271 booths are allocated for Malaysian entrepreneurs to participate in the expo.

“We anticipate approximately 120,000 visitors to attend the Expo held over four days,” it said.

The event’s origins can be traced back to the inception of Malaysia Fresh Fruits Fiesta in 2006, which was subsequently expanded and rebranded into the present-day Malaysia Fest.

In addition to Singapore, Fama said it would organise similar programmes like Malaysia Fest in other countries that have the potential to promote Malaysian agro-food products globally.

Fama said it aimed to generate direct sales of RM10 million, higher than last year’s RM7.87 million and RM7.37 million in 2019.

Malaysian singer, songwriter, actress, and businesswoman Datuk Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin will be among the celebrities participating in the event.

The pre-launch ceremony of Expo Malaysia Fest 2023 was held at the Office of the High Commissioner of Malaysia in Singapore.
