SHAH ALAM, July 5 – The Selangor government has allocated RM3 million to address the severe peak-hour traffic congestion along Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari here.
State executive councillor for infrastructure Izham Hashim said the project will involve widening a one-kilometre stretch of the two-lane road, which is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
“For the long term, we plan to add an additional lane each in both directions, considering that this road is a major intersection with the Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Highway (DASH),” he said.
The project is set to continue for two more years, with an estimated budget of RM20 million, inclusive of utility costs. The funding will be jointly provided by the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) and Teguh Mantap, the company responsible for the area’s development, said Izham.
Earlier today, Izham, accompanied by Shah Alam MP Azli Yusuf and incumbent Kota Anggerik state assemblyman Najwan Halimi, conducted an inspection of the ongoing widening works.
Since November last year, the Selangor government has implemented a contraflow lane on the affected stretch as a proactive measure to alleviate the severe congestion in the area.
The decision to take action was prompted by numerous complaints from over 100,000 road users, particularly during peak hours.
Additionally, the upcoming opening of DASH further emphasised the need to address the traffic issue for improved traffic flow and enhanced commuting experience for motorists.
