GOMBAK, June 30 — The public is reminded to be more mindful of their health to ensure that the Covid-19 pandemic does not spread during the celebration of Aidiladha, said Selangor Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari.

Amirudin said that individuals who experience symptoms should get tested, and if positive, they should isolate themselves and refrain from participating in sacrificial programmes to avoid infecting others.

"This disciplined process needs to be instilled in the minds, understood and followed by everyone. When feeling unwell and experiencing symptoms, get tested, and if positive, isolate yourself.

"This is important to prevent new outbreaks of Covid-19 or the emergence of new variants due to mutations during the Aidiladha sacrificial programmes," he said.

The Gombak MP made these remarks yesterday when he attended the Aidiladha event in Kampung Baru Batu Caves here.

Amirudin arrived at the 'ibadah korban' (animal sacrificial rites) location riding a scooter with his wife, Datin Seri Masdiana Muhamad, at 11.50 am and also assisted in the event.

Yesterday, Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa announced that the use of face masks is no longer mandatory in public transportation and hospitals, starting this Wednesday.

However, individuals who are positive for Covid-19 are advised (not mandatory) to wear face masks when in clinics, hospitals and public transportation.

Additionally, she stated that the isolation period for Covid-19 cases has been shortened from seven to five days from the onset of the first symptoms, effective next Wednesday.

Earlier reports by the media indicated a 53.5 per cent decrease in new Covid-19 cases and a 35.3 per cent decrease in deaths in the past five weeks.
