State revenue not affected even if poll held in August

KLANG, June 26 — Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari is confident Selangor's revenue will remain unaffected even if the state election is held at a later date in August, as is being speculated.

He said this is as the recent state executive council meeting had already approved over 450 working papers to address any such arising issue.

Amirudin, who is also Selangor Pakatan Harapan chairman, said he made sure that state administration would not repeat the mistakes made in the 2018 general election, when it only recorded RM1.8 billion in revenue during the dissolution period as opposed to the usual RM2.4 billion.

"Who is predicting (the state election will be held in August)? Even if it is, it's okay. We will have more time to organise and make decisions," he told a press conference after attending the groundbreaking ceremony of the Selangor State Development Corporation's (PKNS) centralised labour quarters in Bandar Sultan Suleiman, here, today.

"We have partly resolved the issue. In our special state government meeting, we approved more than 450 working papers. We have experienced in the past whereby during election, the papers were approved late, as the timing was inappropriate."

Previously, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had given a hint that the six state elections in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu could be held in August.

Meanwhile, Amirudin reminded the caretaker government to be mindful not to give any approval pertaining to land matters, as this would constitute policy change, which is not allowed upon the dissolution of the state legislative assembly.

He also noted that Selangor has recorded RM3.4 billion in state reserves as of April.
