PETALING JAYA, May 31 – A total of 121 cases of dengue fever were recorded in Petaling Jaya within a one-week period, from May 21 to 27, says Mohamad Azhan Md Amir.

The Petaling Jaya mayor said this brings the cumulative number of dengue cases recorded in the district since January to 1,981.

“Compared to the previous week (May 14 to 20) which recorded 99 cases, there was an increase of 22 dengue fever cases last week,” he said after chairing the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) full board meeting, here yesterday.

Mohamad Azhan also said that the number of affected localities increased to 49 last week, compared to 42 in the previous week.

“our out of the 49 localities are categorised as hotspots,” he said.

Meanwhile, Azhan said a total of 40 shooters have registered online to participate in the crow shooting campaign on July 22 and August 26.

“To participate in this campaign, applicants are required to submit a copy of their identification card, the latest shooting licence, and bank account book or bank statement.

“For now, we are in the process of applying for the permit from the Royal Malaysia Police to ensure the campaign runs smoothly,” he said adding that the shooters will be paid RM6 for each crow shot.

Last year, a total of 916 crows were shot, with a payment of RM5,496.

Registration for the campaign was previously open from April 18 to May 17.
