PETALING JAYA, May 31 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has allocated over RM2.618 million for road maintenance within its jurisdiction since the beginning of this year.

Its mayor Mohamad Azhan Md Amir said RM1.5 million was spent on repairing major routes, while the remainder was used to fix potholes.

He said out of the total 4.5 kilometres of major roads, 850 meters have been repaired and over 500 lanes have been patched.

“Fixing potholes and resurfacing works are carried out in stages by three groups, namely the MBPJ Road Gang, three annual contractors and 19 indentured contractors starting from January,” he said chairing the MBPJ Full Board meeting, here yesterday.

Mohamad Azhan also announced that the local council will be repairing a 6.4-kilometre road at a cost of RM2 million in August.

He also stated that an artificial intelligence (AI) powered hole detection system will be implemented in June to enhance road maintenance operations.

“Through this system, MBPJ will be able to immediately detect road damages and instruct contractors to the location for immediate repairs,” he added.
