Selangor Health Dept orders closure of 42 dirty eateries

SHAH ALAM, March 21 — The Selangor Health Department ordered the closure of 42 eateries this year up to March 15 due to cockroach, fly and rat infestation and the accumulation of demerit points.

Its director, Datuk Dr Sha’ari Ngadiman, said the orders were issued during the Clean Premises Operation carried out in the state by the Food Safety and Quality Division along with nine district health offices and two entry point health offices.

He said the operation, which was conducted to ensure that eateries are free of conditions that may lead to contamination of food, resulted in the inspection of 673 eateries.

He also said that 462 notices were issued to owners of eateries and food operators under the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009, involving compound fines of RM287,200.

Dr Sha’ari advised all food operators in Selangor to always ensure that their premises and products complied with the Food Act 1983 and related regulations.

"Consumers are also advised to always choose eateries wisely. They can channel information on dirty eateries or food products to the nearest district health office through the Public Complaints Management System (SISPAA) or the department’s Facebook account," he said.
