SHAH ALAM, March 16 — Selangor is now Malaysia's first state to implement online business registration and licensing guidelines, said the state executive councillor for local government Ng Sze Han.

He said the guidelines, which came into effect on January 1 last year, is aimed at traders who conduct their businesses from residential, commercial and industrial premises.

"However, we only received 110 registrations last year and at the present, 27 registration applications for this year.

"This opening ceremony is aimed at informing the public about online business licencing so that more target groups can be reached," Ng said.

He was speaking at the officiation ceremony for Selangor's online business registration and licensing guidelines, at the Annex Building of the State Secretariat Building in Shah Alam, earlier today.

Ng added the state has recorded over 40,000 online entrepreneurs registered with the Company of Malaysia (SSM).

The implementation of online business licencing has aided entrepreneurs in expanding their businesses, as well as boosting customers' confidence.

"Once the guidelines are in place, they can officially obtain a licence from their respective local authority.

"Previously traders complained that without a PBT licence, they faced issues, especially in importing goods from abroad, as suppliers required licences," he said.
