SHAH ALAM, Jan 29 — Some 36 personnel of the Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang) managed to climb the peak of Mount Kinabalu in Sabah yesterday, as part of their effort to promote Selangor batik.

Its President Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain said this was the second ascent after the first mission in 2019, to promote Tahun Melawat Sepang (The Year to Visit Sepang).

"In 2019 our climb promoted Tahun Melawat Sepang. This climb is to promote Selangor batik, and will also be included in the Malaysia Book Of Records," he said in a statement.

Abd Hamid added that Mount Kinabalu was selected to raise more awareness among the people of Sabah and Sarawak about Selangor's batik works and its unique state-theme patterns.

Two Radio Televisyen Malaysia personnel also participated in the climb to provide constant coverage.

On December 1 last year, Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari launched Selangor's batik pattern based on a nine-petalled flower of the Spanish cherry (Mimusops elengi) which symbolises the state's nine districts.
