Five more victims of job scam syndicate safely return to Malaysia

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 27 — Five more Malaysian citizens, who were victims of a job scam syndicate in Cambodia, arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) today.

According to a statement by the Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra), the victims – aged between 17 and 42 years old – was also accompanied by a senior Wisma Putra officer as well as a delegation of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) who were on a working visit to Cambodia starting Tuesday (January 24).

With the return of the five victims, Wisma Putra has so far brought home a total of 346 Malaysian citizens who were victims of job scam syndicates in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand.

Wisma Putra expressed its appreciation to the Cambodian Government for cooperation in the search and rescue efforts of Malaysian citizens who are victims of the syndicate in addition to the willingness to accept the four-day work visit.

The statement also advised the public to be mindful of high-salaried overseas job offers from dubious sources, including through social media, mobile apps or online.

Wisma Putra is viewing the problem very seriously, and urged members of the public to report to the PDRM and the ministry if they suspect their family members of falling prey to job scam syndicates.
