SHAH ALAM, Jan 5 — The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has implemented four flood mitigation projects under the Shah Alam Flood Action Plan (Sasud).
The Shah Alam mayor Nor Fuad Abdul Hamid said works on the project began in December last year and is being done mainly in Kampung Bukit Naga, Section 32 here.
He added that the three other areas are in Taman Sri Muda, Section 25; Taman Mesra, Section U1 and Section 13.
"We have issued four appointment letters and work is underway. This year we will issue several more appointment letters.
"However, it is still embargoed for now. We expect the new project to start in April," he said after the swearing-in ceremony and appointment of MBSA council members, yesterday.
Early December 2022, MBSA introduced Sasud which would be implemented for a short-term and in phases to reduce disaster recurring risk.
State executive councillor for infrastructure Izham Hashim said MBSA is the first local authority in the country to implement an integrated flood mitigation plan project.
Meanwhile, MBSA is ready to consider Jakel textile store’s application to look for a new business site in the city.
Nor Fuad said MBSA has not yet received any official application from the owner.
"Yesterday (January 3), the owner of Jakel met me and informally informed me to find a new site next to Shah Alam Hospital.
"However, we are waiting for their official application. We are ready to consider," he said.
Last Sunday (January 1), Wisma Jakel in Section 7 caught fire which destroyed goods for sale for Ramadan and Hari Raya involving losses of hundreds of millions of ringgit.
The incident recurred again on January 3 involving the curtain fabric storage on the third floor of the three-story shop lot.
Previously, its managing director Datuk Seri Mohamed Faroz Mohamed Jakel said the fabric store's business operations have been disrupted and he is planning to find a new business site around Shah Alam.
