SHAH ALAM, Jan 1 — The water supply to 221 areas affected by the temporary shutdown of the Sungai Semenyih water treatment plant (WTP) has fully recovered at 12pm today.

Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) in a statement said the areas include 64 areas in Petaling, Hulu Langat (29 areas), Sepang (119 areas) and nine areas in Kuala Langat.

Air Selangor would like to thank consumers for their patience and cooperation during this unscheduled water supply disruption period,” it said on Facebook.

Yesterday, the Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) detected odour pollution at a static monitoring location 1.5km from the Jenderam Hilir raw water pump station intake, which resulted in the WTP shutting down at 9pm.

The pollution is believed to have been caused by leftover pollution due to an accident on December 24, 2022, involving a lorry carrying a load of perfume oil along the Elite Highway in Negeri Sembilan, which occurred at KM 44.1 heading north near Bandar Serenia, some six kilometres from the border of Selangor.

The accident resulted in an unscheduled water disruption due to the temporary shutdowns of the Sungai Semenyih and Bukit Tampoi WTPs.

This led Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd to mobilise 85 water tankers to 472 areas in five regions in the Klang Valley that were affected. Water supply subsequently resumed the following day.
