SHAH ALAM, Dec 26 — The number of special needs children at Anak Istimewa Selangor (Anis) preschool will be increased to 40 students beginning next January.

Its department head Daniel Al Rashid Haron said the students, aged between five to six years, have been selected to join the preschool after passing the screening process.

“As of now, 14 students have been following the learning process here and we expect more students will join during the new intake next month.

“The screening process has been conducted every Friday since early December. The process is aimed to assess the children’s growth level,” he said when contacted by SelangorKini today.

Meanwhile, Daniel informed that the students will be exposed to learning modules set by the Education Ministry.

“There will be no changes (learning modules), they will learn basic subjects such as mathematics and Bahasa Melayu. What matters is we want them to be able to recognise alphabets and numbers, aside from listening to the teacher's instruction.

“We will ensure that their growth level could be improved throughout their learning programme here, which may take up between one to two years so that they could continue learning at a normal school.

“For children who show delayed growth, for instance, they act like a child aged two to three years, they will be referred back to the Anis intervention centre at the Ideal Convention Centre,” he added.
