KUALA SELANGOR, Nov 14 — The Election Commission (EC) has been advised to improve the implementation of postal votes, especially for overseas voters.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the claims of some postal voters who have not received their ballot papers should not have occured.
“The EC must ensure such a matter does not happen because there is concern that there is room for fraud.
“So, the commission has to be professional and I hope this does not recur,” he said, after attending a lunch event with Kuala Selangor residents at Dewan Orang Ramai Kampung Bukit Kuching Tengah, earlier today.
Yesterday, it was reported that some postal voters, particularly overseas voters, had not yet received their ballot papers.
Some even stated they will only receive postal ballot papers on voting day on this Saturday (November 19).
A Twitter survey also revealed voters who have registered to vote by post for almost a week, but who have yet to receive their ballot papers until today.
Meanwhile, the 15th general election (GE15) campaign for Pakatan Harapan is said to be going smoothly, with voters’ support for the coalition continuing to increase.
Amirudin, who is also Selangor Harapan chairman, urged all candidates to intensify their campaigns in their respective areas for the remaining few days before November 19.
“This is because the number of voters have risen from 30 to 40 per cent, compared to the last GE (in 2018) due to the increase in postal voters and voters who were registered automatically,” he said.
The Election Commission has set November 19 as the voting day for GE15, while early voting is on November 15.
