SHAH ALAM, Nov 9 — The Selangor government is offering 10,000 free influenza and pneumococcal vaccinations to its citizens who are identified as high-risk.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said that the programme is in line with the government’s determination to ensure the health of its people.

“We (the state government) have allocated a total of RM1.5 million to this vaccination programme with advice from the Public Health Committee and the Selangor Public Health Advisory Council (Selphac).

“Our focus will first be for those at old folks care centres, senior citizens and cardholders of Iltizam Selangor Sihat,” he said.

The programme, which begins from November 14 to December 31, will be implemented through the Selvax Mobile Team and the Selcare clinics.

“This decision was made after taking into account the statistics of increased respiratory infections among the citizens, causing a health risk for the people of Selangor, especially among the elderlies,” said Amirudin.

He also added that the commitment was made due to the recent rise of Covid-19 cases in the country and the higher risk factors expected during the coming 15th general election.
