PETALING JAYA, Oct 12 — The decision to not dissolve the Selangor State Legislative Assembly following the dissolution of Parliament is the right move to protect the welfare of the people.

Kampung Tunku assemblyman Lim Yi Wei said although it would be challenging, it is necessary so as to prepare for the Northeast Monsoon and high-tide phenomenon.

“The state government must bear in mind

the people’s welfare, and it is unfair to force them to go out and vote if they live in flood-affected areas.

“However, if the State Legislative Assembly remains undissolved, I hope Selangor, Penang and Negeri Sembilan can be dissolved together when the time comes,” she said during a press conference after the Selangor Rugby Union 2022 Women’s Rugby Championship (Kampung Tunku State Constituency Cup), earlier today.

Yesterday, His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj decreed no dissolution of the Selangor state government concurrently with the dissolution of Parliament.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said His Royal Highness wanted the state government to continue administering Selangor and stay focused on efforts to ensure the wellbeing of its citizens.

He informed that the decision was reached after meeting with His Royal Highness at Istana Bukit Kayangan in Shah Alam yesterday.

On Monday, the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the dissolution of Parliament, which paved the way for the 15th General Election.

On October 5, the Pakatan presidential council said the state governments of Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Penang would not be dissolved this year.

Meanwhile, in collaboration with Selangor Rugby Union the Kampung Tunku state constituency will organise the 2022 Women’s Rugby Championship, to be held on October 15 and October 16.

Lim said that the tournament to win the Kampung Tunku State Constituency Cup is open to 10 teams in the Open Women’s category and seven teams in the Under-16 Women’s category.

She added the inaugural event, to take place at Padang Astaka in Petaling Jaya, aims to expose women to rugby.

“Selangor has a strong rugby team and so far, their development has been very good and they even won silver in the 20th Malaysia Games (Sukma) recently.

“Therefore, we are organising this tournament as a platform to select players, in preparing for various competitions as well as to empower women in sports,” Lim said.

Selangor Rugby Union honorary secretary Tan Thiam Jin said the tournament has also became the perfect platform to search for young talents among school students.

“For the Under-16 Women’s category, there are seven schools throughout Selangor involved, while the Women’s Open sees 10 teams participating with six being rugby clubs and one from Singapore.

“The championship has a two-pronged approach, whereby the participation of school students facilitates the search for talents to enter Sukma, while the club participants will help in the selection for the 15 member senior squad,” he said.
