SHAH ALAM, Oct 5 — A total of 17 special needs children have begun the preschool programme at the Selangor Special Needs Children (Anis) Centre.
Its department head Danial Al-Rashid Haron said that the five- to six-year-old children are receiving the same education as other kindergarteners, such as reading and counting.
“These children are learning and receiving the same education as other kindergarteners because the main objective of the programme is to prepare them for primary school.
“Currently, there is only one morning session with 17 children registered, 12 teachers and a therapist,” he said when contacted.
Daniel said that they will be holding an interview session this month for the second phase admission to complete the total of 40 children.
“They will be placed in five classes with a maximum number of eight children per class. However, if there are children who require more attention, the total per class will be reduced,” he said.
This special preschool programme for special needs children aged five to six years old is operated by Anis at the support centre located in Section 7, Shah Alam.
A total of 80 special needs students became the first group in the preschool programme that provides educational opportunities and facilities to people with special needs.
