SEMENYIH, Sept 24 — The Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah today officiated the tree planting programme held in conjunction with the state-level World Forest Day celebration, at Bukit Broga here.

His Highness’ arrival was received by Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, Selangor State Secretary Dato’ Haris Kasim and state executive councillor for environment Hee Loy Sian.

Also present were Peninsular Malaysia Forestry Department director-general, Datuk Mohd Ridza Awang and Selangor Forestry Department director Datuk Ahmad Fadzil Abd Majid.

During the ceremony, Tengku Amir also witnessed the launching of the application for the state-level tree planting campaign and presented awards for the best display booth before making a tour of the exhibition site.

The Raja Muda of Selangor later planted a tree to commemorate the state-level World Forest Day celebration.

Earlier in his speech, the Menteri Besar urged all state departments and agencies to play a proactive role in making the campaign to plant 26 million trees in Selangor a success.

Amirudin said the programme is important as it is in line with the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj decree that had also set the target for it to be achieved by 2026.

He said the aim to plant 26 million trees also coincides with His Royal Highness’s 26 years of rule, which began in 2001.
