SHAH ALAM, Sept 20 — The Selangor government has added RM500,000 to the Indian Selangor Empowerment and Entrepreneurs Development (i-Seed) programme this year.

State executive councillor for socio-economic development V Ganabatirau said that the state administration had allotted RM1.5 million for 2022 from the RM1 million last year.

“Initially, the allocation is RM1 million a year but due to the high number of requests and applications, the state government had added RM500,000 for this year.

“I believe that the allocation will be increased in the coming year,” he said at a press conference at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC), here yesterday.

He said that 211 individuals had received the assistance this year and that more than 300 more are expected to benefit from the programme.

i-SEED was launched on April 7 last year and is intended to improve the economic position of the Indian community by providing grants for the equipment support that their businesses require.

The programme is open to Selangor citizens or residents of more than 10 years, individuals and households with an income of less than RM3,000 per month and businesses that are operating in the state.

The businesses must also be running and consistent and the applicant or spouse (husband/wife) had never received equipment assistance under the Selangor State Poverty Eradication Blueprint Assistance Programme or the Selangor Micro Entrepreneur Fund.
