KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 15 — Defending champion Perak were dumped out of the SUKMA men’s football knockout stage after losing both their group matches while Selangor and Federal Territories sealed their spots in the quarterfinals from Group A.
Both Selangor and Federal Territories have two wins each while Perak and Negeri Sembilan have yet to earn their first point.
Selangor who beat Perak in their first match, edged Negeri Sembilan 1-0 yesterday at the Universiti Malaya Arena (UM) while Federal Territories also beat Perak by a similar margin at the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Stadium (UKM) yesterday afternoon.
Selangor’s only goal of the match was scored by Muhammad Khairi Suffian Khaineyusri in the 49th minute while Muhammad Iman Fakhrullah Zamri was the toast of FT when he struck the winner in the 22nd minute.
Though Selangor and FT have six points each, Selangor with a better goal difference head Group A.
Both teams will play each other to determine the group winner.
In Group B action, Pahang edged Sarawak 1-0 at the Universiti Teknologi Nasional Stadium (UNITEN), Bangi through a 22nd-minute strike by Ibrahim Manusi.
Despite the loss, Sarawak who beat Melaka 2-1 three days ago can earn a quarterfinal spot if they can beat Johor in their next match on Friday.
