PETALING JAYA, Sept 14 — Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) has successfully increased its water reserve margin to over 13 per cent last year compared to three per cent in 2015.
Its chief executive officer Suhaimi Kamaralzaman said the increase was in tandem with the company’s 30-year plan to be the leading water services provider in Asia by 2030.
“The achievement was also contributed by the development of three water treatment plants (WTP) in the past five years that included Semenyih 2, Labohan Dagang and Langat 2,” he said in his speech during the launching of Air Selangor coffee table book, here yesterday.
The event was officiated by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
Suhaimi said as of last year, Air Selangor had replaced 556 kilometres (km) of pipes while the remaining 260 km are still ongoing, to ensure the consumer could get access to clean and safe water.
“This is the results from over RM4 billion of a contract awarded by the National Water Services Commission (Span) to us as the sole water services provider in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
“In the meantime, we are currently upgrading 53 water retention ponds and pump houses while 11 more are being repaired. The non-revenue water (NRW) rate last year stood at 28 per cent compared to 32.2 per cent in 2016,” he said.
Other than the three previously mentioned WTP, the effort to increase the water reserve margin will also be implemented through the construction of Sungai Rasau WTP, which is expected to be completed in 2025.
