Accident on Elite Highway, no oil spill detected — Luas

SHAH ALAM, Aug 19 — No oil spill was detected at nearby water sources following an accident involving a lorry on Elite Highway at KM 25.9 northbound near Bandar Gamuda Cove junction, Kuala Langat, this morning.

In a statement on Facebook, the Selangor Water Management Board (Luas) said an immediate investigation was carried out at the accident site to ensure there was no risk of contamination to the Labohan Dagang water treatment plant (WTP).

“According to the findings of Luas’ investigation in the drainages close to the scene of the incident (within 50 metres), there was no evidence of oil flowing into the nearby water sources.

“Initial precautionary measures were implemented by PLUS Malaysia Bhd (PLUS) by distributing wood dust along the oil spill’s path. The accident and oil spill did not pose a threat to the nearby water sources,” the post read.

Luas added that close monitoring would continue from time to time to ensure that the event does not have an impact on the WTP operations, which could disrupt the water supply to the consumers.

“Luas is committed to implementing 24-hour monitoring in the river basin to guarantee the continuity of water resources in Selangor.”
