SEPANG, Aug 18 — Three water treatment plants (WTP) in Selangor utilise the Riverside Water Reservoir (TAPS) method to reduce the risk of work stoppage if pollution occurs, said Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd operations head Abas Abdullah.
He said doing so will enable the Semenyih 2, Labohan Dagang and Sungai Labu WTPs to draw from pond reservoir water, in the event the raw water sources become contaminated.
"Each plant has its own reservoir, which is located in the downstream area of the river bank or near the plant.

"If the water source is contaminated, we will close the plant and use reservoir water from this pond, which has proven to be effective," Abas said during a press conference at the Semenyih 2 WTP earlier today.
He added that TAPS will also be expanded to the Sungai Rasau WTP, which is expected to be completed by the middle of 2025 with a RM3 billion allocation.
"Currently the Sungai Rasau WTP is capable of producing up to 700 litres daily. Once TAPS is carried out, this will become up to 1,400 litres of water for distribution," Abas said.
Meanwhile, only three pollution incidents have occurred so far which forced the WTP to halt operations.
"Various steps are taken by the state government and related agencies to overcome pollution. These include the Raw Water Guarantee Scheme (SJAM) project and personnel to monitor water resources," he said.
