SHAH ALAM, July 19 — The Kuala Langat Municipal Council (MPKL) has issued a warning prohibiting its residents from planting trees and crops in playgrounds, housing, sidewalks, open spaces and buffer zones.

It said doing so could lead to disturbances and discomfort to the locals.

"Residents of Kuala Langat are reminded not to plant banana trees, coconut trees, mango trees, sweet potatoes, lemongrass, vegetables and the like in these areas," MPKL said in a Facebook post.

The council added that individuals found guilty will be issued a notice under Section 104 of the Local Government Act 1976. If convicted they can be fined up to RM2,000, face imprisonment of no more than one year, or both.
