SHAH ALAM, June 3 — The Selangor Saring health screening programme that has been running since May 22 has managed to detect chronic ailments in a number of its patients.
State executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said based on the test results, some of these patients are suspected to be suffering from illnesses such as cancer, but which has yet to be verified.
"The results will be referred to hospitals and experts. Participants must undergo further tests to confirm the type of ailment they are facing.
"This is the purpose of Selangor Saring, we want to help patients detect chronic illnesses so that treatment can be administered much earlier," she told SelangorKini earlier today.
The state government has allocated RM3.4 million to realise Selangor Saring, which is expected to benefit 39,000 residents, particularly those with a family history of ailments, obese individual or those leading unhealthy lifestyles.
The programme, which will run until September 4, includes physical examinations, screenings of four types of cancers (colorectal, prostate, cervical and breasts) and blood and urine tests.
It will be held at Dewan Serbaguna Bernam Jaya in Hulu Bernam tomorrow, while on Sunday Selangor Saring will take place at Dewan Sekolah Rendah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina Yoke Kuan in Sekinchan.
