SHAH ALAM, May 29 — A total of 100 Selangor Volunteer (SERVE) members have been selected to join the SERVE Elite squad, which helps the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) in disaster operations.

Its chief Ahmad Danish Hairudin said the participants were selected from 300 members after going through the screening process by the Selangor National Sports Council (MSNS).

“SERVE has 3,800 members and out of the total, 300 members have shown a commitment during the flood assistance mission and have good fitness levels.

“They were screened by MSNS recently and only 100 individuals have been selected to undergo training with the Selangor JBPM,” he told SelangorKini yesterday.

Ahmad Danish said of the total, 10 of them are women and their help is needed in certain situations when a disaster occurs.

“The women volunteers are usually the best to help women victims during such incident,” he said.

Ahmad Danish said the two-week training with the fire department is expected to be held in June or July before the SERVE Elite members begin their duties in November.

Previously, state executive councillor for youth development Mohd Khairuddin Othman said a total of RM100,000 was allocated to form the SERVE Elite squad.
