SHAH ALAM, May 27 — The Ziarah Medik programme organized by the Selangor Women's Welfare and Charity Organisation (Pekawanis) will be continued this August with an allocation of more than RM100,000.
Its Welfare, Social and Celebration Bureau chief Datin Sharifah Mahiza Syed Abd Kadir said through the second session they aim to assist over 400 chronic patients in 41 state constituencies.
“Each of the constituencies is given RM2,500 to help 10 recipients in their respective areas. The recipient will be screened to ensure the allocation reaches the target group.
"This initiative benefits the patients even if they had received assistance from the Social Welfare Department or the Selangor Zakat Board, due to the high cost of medicine," she said.
Sharifah Mahiza was speaking at the Rumah Puteri Arafiah (RPA) Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house today. Also present was RPA Patron Tengku Putri Datin Paduka Hajjah Arafiah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz.
In March, Pekawanis president Datin Seri Masdiana Muhammad informed that RM95,000 was spent on the Ziarah Medik programme in 38 state constituencies.
The programme prioritises single mothers and people with disabilities (OKU) from low-income (B40) groups.
