SHAH ALAM, May 9 — Kajang Hospital has created history by successfully conducting its first organ donation and transplantation procedure, yesterday.

The success was commended by the Health Ministry (MOH) and shared by Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah on Facebook today.

“May 8, 2022, is a historic date for Kajang Hospital as it had successfully conducted the first organ donation procedure.

“Thank you to the Tissue and Organ Procurement Team, Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Unit Department, Medical Department, Pathology Department, Radiology Department, Kajang Hospital Emergency Department and Forensic Unit, and the Kuala Lumpur Hospital Urology specialist team who had helped conduct the procedure,” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham also conveyed his appreciation towards the donor’s family and described the donation as the most valuable life reward as it helps to save the organ receiver’s life who suffered from organ failure.

According to the latest record in the country, he said over 4,600 patients are waiting for organ donation.

“To date, a total of 2,624 patients have received the benefits of organ transplant surgery from post-death organ donation and living donors.

“To coordinate and ease the process, the organ procurement units or teams are established in MOH hospitals as an initiative to strengthen the service,” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham had also called all parties to continue supporting organ donation programmes in the country to help more patients.

“Register and pledge to be an organ donor. Inform your families of the intention. For further information on organ donation, visit www.dermaorgan.gov.my,” he said.
