SUNGAI BULOH, April 27 — Some 100 Selangor Volunteer (SERVE) members will undergo training with the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) to improve their skills when facing disasters.

State executive councillor for youth and human resource development Mohd Khairuddin Othman said the move is to ensure that the volunteers would be able to provide faster assistance during emergencies such as the flood situation that hit the state in December last year.

“Previously, SERVE could only help with the post-flood cleaning works. If the members are given proper training from the firefighters, they would be able to help faster.

“Therefore, we will be sending 100 members out of the 4,100 volunteers to join the SERVE Elite squad. The fire brigade has also agreed to assist, and we hope the programme could start soon,” he said when met during the breaking fast event with the Village Community Management Council (MPKK) at Saujana Utama, here last night.

During the event, Mohd Khairuddin had also handed over a donation of RM50,000 to construct the Saujana Utama Volunteer Fire Station.
