Several tourism initiatives planned for Kuala Selangor

SHAH ALAM, March 18 — Several initiatives will be implemented in Kuala Selangor to develop the district's cultural and heritage assets, including the construction of a handicrafts centre at the top of Bukit Malawati, said state executive councillor for culture and heritage Borhan Aman Shah.

He said the cultural and heritage centre will be built at the site of the Public Works Department engineers’ old quarters, with discussions on its concept, design and allocation currently underway.

“The old quarters for the Drainage and Irrigation Department engineers will be turned into the Malawati Gallery to display flora and fauna, as well as three-dimensional (3D) paintings themed on the legend and history of Bukit Malawati.

"Selangor also intends to reopen the cultural site near the Muzium Permainan Tradisional Rakyat as a performance venue to attract local and foreign tourists," Borhan said at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting there today.

He added that to ensure the plan can be implemented, collaboration will be done with the state’s Economic Planning Unit, District and Land Office, Kuala Selangor Municipal Council and other related agencies.

"The cost is RM700,000 and we have also applied with the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry for an allocation under the 12th Malaysia Plan for 2023," he said.
