KUALA SELANGOR, March 2 — Yayasan Food Bank Malaysia has donated food baskets to 100 residents from Kampung Bukit Hijau and Kampung Parit Mahang, who were affected by the severe floods in December last year.

Its chairman of the board of trustees, Her Highness Tengku Zatashah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, said the aid is part of the RM500,000 donation by Xiaomi Malaysia.

"We also handed over bathing items, such as clothes-cleaning detergent. We hope this will help to aid the victims and lighten their burden," she said during the post-flood handover ceremony at Masjid Al Falah in Kampung Bukit Hijau earlier today.

Her Highness also visited flood victims at their homes and spent time with them, in addition to handing over electric appliances, including washing machines and refrigerators.

The extraordinary rainfall from December 17 to December 19 last year was double the previous recorded high of 180mm, which resulted in many locations statewide becoming submerged in water.

Following this, the state government prepared a RM100 million allocation for the Bantuan Selangor Bangkit initiative, which is aimed at restoring infrastructure as well as financial aid for households affected by the floods, and for the next-of-kin of victims who perished in the disaster.
