SHAH ALAM, Jan 28 — The operations of the second phase post-flood cleanup by KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) has reached 15 per cent, as of today.

Its managing director Ramli Mohd Tahir said the areas in which the cleanup is focused includes Taman Sri Nanding in Hulu Langat, Taman Sri Muda in Shah Alam, and Taman Klang Utama.

He predicted the cleanup operations will take three months, since a great deal of manpower is needed to dig and suck up the mud from drains and ditches.

We hope residents can be patient, and at the same time look after the cleared areas so that water can flow freely in the drains and ditches," he said.

KDEBWM, a subsidiary company of the state government that fully-manages domestic waste collection, has been endeavouring to clear flood-affected areas since December 20 last year in stages.

Approximately 78,000 metric tonnes of bulk waste have been cleared, with cooperation from the local authorities and other agencies, which fully concluded on January 7.

Starting on January 8, the company has been carrying out the second phase of the cleanup operations, focusing on decontamination and clearing out clogged drains and ditches, using effective microbiology technology.
