SHAH ALAM, Jan 12 — Flood victim Sewah Samidjo, 64, was speechless after being told that his badly damaged house would be repaired by the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS).
Sewah, who was born without both of his legs, was touched by the commitment shown by LZS to pay the repair cost for his house, which he has lived in for over 20 years in Kampung Bukit Lanchong, here.

The father of two, who uses a wheelchair, was delighted to know that the works on the house, which will commence next month, would include disabled-friendly features.
“I am very, very grateful that LZS wants to rebuild my house. I cannot afford to do it using my own money. In fact, the house’s condition had become critical after it was submerged during the flooding.
“As a registered poor asnaf under LZS, the distribution of aid is smooth as long as you follow the procedures.
“I am thankful to LZS for all their help in providing me with the supply of medicine, wheelchair, basic foods, cash and now, repairing my house,” he said when met by SelangorKini.

Sewah is among 25 poor asnaf in the village eligible to receive post-floods house repair assistance from LZS.
Similarly, Abdul Rahman Othman, 53, hopes the repair process will start soon to reduce the burden on his wife Rosidah Dahlan, 53, who has suffered from kidney disease for the past five years.
The father of five said the flooding incident on December 18 last year would forever be etched in his memory as all their belongings, including his wife’s 36 medicine boxes, were washed away by the floods.
“Only God knows how we suffered that day. I searched for a big black water tank and placed my sick wife inside before she was transferred to the temporary relief centre at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Alam Megah 2.
“Alhamdulillah (praise be to God), everything is good now, but I hope the repair work will be expedited as our house was damaged from the floods,” he said.
