SHAH ALAM, Jan 7 — The agencies in charge has been asked to review the existing drainage system around Port Klang to prevent severe floods from recurring.

Its state assemblyman Azmizam Zaman Huri said the Klang Municipal Council (MPK) and the Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS) should learn from the disaster on December 18 last year.

"Heavy rain for 18 hours resulted in rainfall of 380 millimetres that collided with the high tide phenomenon.

"I hope MPK and JPS will become more sensitive. They need to review the drainage system in Telok Gong, Kampung Tradisi Pulau Indah and the entire area in Port Klang,” he told Selangorkini.

Azmizam explained that every development that is planned and approved must take into account the capability of the drainage system as well as the country's climate change.

“Don't just think on the profit for the developer, but later the people will bear the losses and destruction of their property.

"In fact, some have lost their lives in the disasters due to failure, negligence and weakness of relevant parties in formulating the short-term and long-term plans," he said.
